The splendour of traditional costume

Traditional costume is as much a part of Swiss traditions as yodeling and wrestling.

A cultural asset for more than 200 years, with not one example looking like any other. In the case of traditional costumes for women, there are innumerable nuances and details, showing regional differences. Designed for hard work on farms and fields, coarse and resistant fabrics were used. Unlike the Austrian Dirndl or traditional Bavarian costumes, a white blouse is worn under the bodice, covering the lady's neckline. Brooches made of silver filigree or a small bouquet of flowers decorate the bodice of the Sunday costume, and the skirt is adorned with an apron. Their fabrics are varied and mark the difference between festive costumes and workday clothes.
