Five years ago, the hotel was awarded EarthCheck’s Silver Certificate for having met the requirements to use resources sparingly, rely increasingly on renewable energy and protect the environment. It is the process that businesses must adhere to when seeking certification from EarthCheck, one of the world’s leading scientific benchmarking, certification, and advisory groups in the travel and tourism industry.
But to achieve gold status, The Alpina Gstaad had to develop its commitment even further. That’s why, since 2017, it has gone through a rigorous auditing and certification process, monitoring the hotel’s progress in terms of environmental protection. We have developed our holistic approach in several key areas.
The Cleanup Day, an initiative in collaboration with the local school, has helped raise awareness among the local community. The hotel is also displaying art that deals with social and environmental issues. Also, with Executive Chef Martin Göschel’s zero-waste philosophy, The Alpina Gstaad is making a strong yet flavorful statement against food waste. Last but not least, the hotel strives to involve guests by communicating everyday habits that can help protect the environment.
