A day in the life...

Along with Anita Roth-Reuteler and Claudia von Siebenthal Fust, tour guide Karin Bach shares her love of the region.

What do you enjoy most as a guide?

Interaction with other people! Sharing insider knowledge, the beauty of our valley and its hidden spots.

Your typical day?

In winter, a snowshoe tour in a remote valley such as Turbach, explaining the spirit of Saanenland with 1,000 things to do: sporting, cultural or culinary. Enjoying a fondue from a huge pot in a Fondue Rucksack from a local dairy like the one in Bissen overlooking Gstaad. In summer, visiting a local farmer who makes cheese. Taking the Gondola up the Wispile, then a long walk to Lake Lauenen with a picnic, explaining Alpine flowers, wildlife, the mountains and the locals' way of life.

Transport and tour duration?

I usually drive 2-4 people in my own car, but meet larger groups at a pre-arranged location. Tour times also meet each client's wishes: from village tours of 1-2 hours to an adventurous 6-hour day-trip.

Ideas for newcomers/experienced visitors?

Newcomers enjoy a Gstaad and/or Saanen village tour for a first impression and to learn how tourism developed in the valley. Regular visitors are amazed how many treasures are still to be discovered! Why not a paper-cutting or yodelling workshop after a special hike?…
