Isa Genzken’s visually captivating Two Orchids (2015) soar elegantly skyward in the gardens of The Alpina Gstaad, idealizing a once rare plant which has been called the quintessential flower of our day. Then there is the thought-provoking Just my Luck by Richard Prince, whose illustrious career is a testament to artistic freedom, as well as his love of satire.
Louis Fratino’s Last swim of the season is a typically languid example of his interpretation of the human body, landscapes, and interiors. While Tishan Hsu’s grass-screen-skin / object 2 is a compelling presentation of the relationship between nature, technology and the body. Regardless of the materials used or the artists’ backgrounds, each of these four works, along with the others in our collection, challenges the viewer’s understanding of lived experience, memory, identity, and our relationship with the natural world.
