Our head whisky sommelier Gregory invites you to explore the fascinating world of Japanese whiskies in our new bar, located in an alcove of Megu restaurant, where we have assembled an exquisite selection of Japanese whiskies, elegantly displayed behind the bar.
The Alpina Gstaad is proud to hold the largest collection of Japanese whiskies in Switzerland, currently comprising more than 40 references. Among the most exclusive bottles you’ll find a Shirakawa 1958, the rarest Japanese whisky, and a Karuizawa 38 Years Old Ruby Geisha Sherry Cask, one of only 223 bottles in existence.
During a 90-minute masterclass, Gregory will introduce you to the exciting history of Japanese whisky, which started near Kyoto where the country’s first distillery, Yamazaki, was founded. There are currently 26 distilleries in Japan, spanning the length of the country from Hokkaido to Okinawa; Japan is also home to the largest distillery in the world, Fuji Gotemba, located at the foot of Mount Fuji.
Gregory will introduce you to the different stages of whisky production, in a masterclass that starts with a welcome cocktail and small nibbles followed by a tasting of three different blends of whisky. He will then show three guests how to make cocktails, revealing the secrets of perfect flavour combinations. If you are interested in a masterclass, please get in touch with Gregory.
