Not far from the hotel, a buzzing sound can be heard from a small clearing in the forest. It is the bee colonies of The Alpina Gstaad hotel, which have been producing honey for some time now and where young bees are being bred. Because as you know, bees are of the utmost importance.
Local beekeeper Stefan Neuhaus not only shows hotel guests how honey is made, but also explains why this complex ecosystem could not exist without favourable environmental conditions. Watching a bee colony at work can prompt us to rethink our own consumer behaviour. And guests young and old can taste first hand the product of the bees’ hard work, with honey served at the breakfast buffet.
But honey production is not the bees’ only merit. They also help pollinate plants, thus ensuring they can bear fruit, which supports food production and ensures the survival of those plants. And last but not least, the fruit yielded from bee pollination is demonstrably of higher quality than the fruit harvested after hand pollination.
